Not your usual “Get Fit” post…. posted by on May 20, 2011

I definitely want to start exercising again, but it is very difficult to know how to start. A lot of people were who are already in good shape find it really hard to know why people find it difficult to start exercising. The problem is not that are not motivated, it’s just that I tend to pick up injuries very quickly whenever I start exercising. This is probably something to do with my lifestyle and also because maybe I don’t warmup as well as I should.

I think the best thing I can do is to start exercising but build it up very slowly. I think the person who throws himself into the action as quickly as possible, so it’s probably no surprise that I end up getting injuries on a regular basis. Luckily, all the injuries that I’ve had so far have healed relatively quickly, but the last thing I want to do is end up with a long-term injury that could have been avoided if I just haven’t trained as much.

The other problem is that I probably spend too much time performing high impact activity such as running, when I’d be much better off doing a sport such as cycling. Cycling is a low impact activity but still works your muscles relatively hard, without such a risk of injury.

I’m also going to start a regular stretching program so that I more flexible when I start working. This should hopefully reduce the risk of getting an injury quite considerably.
